QUT style is to write per cent as two words, as in “four per cent” and “14 per cent”. Note that some newspapers opt for the symbol “%”, and others use “percent” as one word.
Make it a rule not to start sentences with a percentage. Note also that a “percentage point” (an economic term) is different from a straight percentage, and the word “point” should not be removed.
